I have found a new love for skin serums. I love exploring different serums for different skin problems. Today I’m going to review Ilana Organics brightening skin serum.
What is skin serum?
Skin serums are products used after face wash and before skin moisturizer. These are a combination of oils and herbs to provide awesome nutrients to your skin.
There are some great options available in the market these days. You will find a serum for a specific skin problem. As usual, you want to go for serums with high natural ingredients and lesser chemicals.
About the company
Born in 2018, this company provides organic skincare products, mainly serums and toners. The company follows four principles: transparent, ethical, safe, and sustainable.
They claim their products are organic, and safe for all skin types, and even the people involved in producing and sourcing the ingredients.
Product Claims
The serum claims to get rid of dark circles, dark spots, or any kind of hyperpigmentation. The presence of Vitamin C in this rich and non-greasy potion would help to reduce the spots and brighten your skin.
This will help in
- dullness and loss of radiance
uneven skin tones - age and sun spots
- acne marks and pigmentation
Ilana Brightening Skin Serum Details
Packaging
The serum comes in a cute glass bottle with an outer carton. All the details are printed on the carton and the bottle.
The bottle has a pump opening that dispenses the right quantity. The pump also has a removable cover to close the pump opening. This is really cool, as it has twofold benefits, avoids spill, and keeps the pump clean.
The transparent bottle also helps in seeing the quantity available. The company also scores a point by packaging essential oils in a glass bottle and avoiding plastic.
The only thing, you need to be careful while handling it as the bottle is made up of glass.
The packaging is leak proof but not travel friendly, as glass bottle may break and spoil your clothes.
Ingredients
Complete ingredient list is printed on the bottle. The company claims to be transparent and list all the ingredients. And they have done that with this serum.
Papaya Seed Oil, Wheat Germ Oil, Lemon Oil, Rose Geranium Oil, Rosemary Oil
The serum has a pretty simple ingredients list. Both papaya and lemon oil have known properties to reduce pigmentation and brighten the skin.
Generally, serums contain some herbs, water, and oils. This serum contains only oils, mostly oils beneficial in reducing pigmentation. I would say, this is a facial oil instead of serum in a true sense.
How to use?
The company recommends using 2-3 drops twice a day. Vitamin C can make your skin photosensitive, which means more pigmentation when exposed to the sun. So, it is recommended to apply sunscreen during the daytime.
Price and Availability
The price of a 15ml serum bottle is Rs 849. You can buy it from Ilana’s website or Amazon.
Texture and Fragrance
The serum is orange with a light consistency. After seeing the ingredients, I was expecting it to be heavy and greasy. But the serum surprised me! The serum is light and spreads very easily on the skin.
It also has a slight lemony fragrance which is refreshing. The smell does not stay for long and dissipates after application.
My review of Ilana Brightening Skin Serum
I have been using this serum for more than a month now. As per the recommendation, I use it twice a day. I take one pump of serum and apply on the face in 4 dots. Then I mix the dots and massage my skin.
In the morning, I apply this serum after a bath and follow up with moisturizer and sunscreen. It works as a good base and enables easy application of other products.
I also used this with Organic harvest sunscreen. The sunscreen is dry in winters, but when used with this serum, it was super easy to apply. And it made my skin moisturized and happy.
During night, I use this serum after face wash and follow up with night cream. My skin feels moisturized and does not feel its usual stretchy self.
I got two pimples after using this. But they went away after a couple of days. I continued using this serum during breakout as well, and it did not increase or reduce the pimples.
The serum is nongreasy and moisturizing. It does not feel heavy and oily on the skin. It absorbs in an instant and does not leave a residue behind.
I have observed some lightening of my sun spots. But it is still not too noticeable. Regarding brightening also, I have yet to see any major changes.
All in all, this is a good face oil with skin-beneficial oils, but need to use consistently for a longer time to see if it really reduces pigmentation.
Pros
- Nongreasy potion – does not weigh heavy on skin
- Nice ingredients – papaya and lemon aid in reducing spots and brighten the skin
- Classy packaging
- Subtle refreshing fragrance
- Moisturizes the skin and does not make it oily or dry
Cons
- Broke me out – gave pimples during the initial days of using it on my acne-prone skin
- Not really a serum- this is a facial oil and does not contain any other herbs or other ingredients
- Did not observe and skin-brightening or reduction in spots
- Expensive
Recommendation
If you are looking for a nice facial oil, then give this a shot. If you have extremely sensitive or acne-prone skin, then be careful as it may cause breakouts.
Rating
3/5 spoons of happiness
Conclusion
Hope this Ilana Organic Brightening Skin Serum review helped to answer some of your questions about this serum. All in all, this is a decent facial oil with natural ingredients.
