Hi there! I bought this hair mask as part of the MamaEarth Onion haircare range. I have already used shampoo and conditioner from the same range and loved the effect it had on my hair. So, I decided to play further and ordered this hair mask from the same range. Here is my review of MamaEarth Onion hair mask for hair fall control.
Hair masks provide more conditioning care to hair than typical hair conditioners. They generally have thicker consistency and are supposed to be left longer than hair conditioners.
Product Description
Controls Hair Fall
Detangles Hair & Strengthens Roots
Suitable for Coloured and Treated Hair
Packaging

The hair mask comes in a sturdy tub packaging. The tub contains an inner plastic lid to stop spillage, making it leakproof. Tub packaging ensures it is easy to take the product out and usage till the last drop. Unlike tube packaging where last remains are wasted, with tub, even the last drop can be used.
Even though easy to use, there are some disadvantages to tub packaging. It is unhygienic as you will have to dip hand to take out the product. I generally use a spoon to take out the mask in a bowl before applying on hair, but it is difficult to carry a spoon every time for a bath.
Mamaearth Onion Hair Mask Ingredients

Key ingredients are mentioned on the tub.
How to use

Directions to use Mamaearth Onion Hair Mask are printed on the tub.
Part your hair in two halves. Take a palm-full of hair mask and apply adequate quantity to wet hair & scalp. Leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes before washing it off with sulfate-free shampoo. For best results, use 2-3 times a week.
Mamearth Onion Hair Mask Details
Let’s see the details of Mamaearth Onion hair mask before seeing my experience with it.
Price: 599INR but generally available at a lower price on Amazon as well as Flipkart. I combined cashback and discounts from Mamaearth site and bought it at a much lower price (around 399 INR).
Quantity: 200 ml
Appearance: Creamy white with medium consistency. The consistency is thicker than the conditioner but still easily spreadable.
Fragrance: It has a herbally smell which dissipates once the hair dries off. The smell is not overly strong and would not bother sensitive noses.
Leak-proof: The tub with outer cover and inner lid is leak-proof.
Travel-friendly: The tub is not easy to carry in a bag. It is bulky, occupies space and does not make a travel-friendly package.
Availability: The conditioner is available in most of the online stores, including Amazon, and mamaearth website. This is currently not available on Flipkart.
My review of mamaearth onion hair mask
I’m reviewing this mask after using it for around 2-3 months. I have used this mask in a variety of ways and now, here is my experience with it.

I struggled to apply this mask in the best way. I generally face breakage while applying a hair mask of any kind, and this was no different. It gave me breakage while applying, be it, only mask, diluted mask, and combed hair.
While washing, it washes off easily with a sulfate-free shampoo, the use of a conditioner is optional. When I used a conditioner with this, my hair was slightly more manageable than with just the mask.
Different ways of using Mamaearth Onion hair mask
1. Mamaearth Hair Mask as a Pre-poo
I used this hair mask as a pre-poo as per directions. I wet my hair and applied this mask. It spread easily but caused breakage. I left it for 20 mins, to be sure before washing it off. More breakage was there while applying and post-wash, there were lesser tangles and frizz. But did not see any difference in hair fall.
2. Intensive care with Mamaearth Onion Hair Mask
I mixed this hair mask with curd and it was the best experience I had with this mask.I mixed equal part curd and hair mask and applied on hair and scalp. Post wash, my hair was smoother, shinier and overall looked much healthier.
3. Mamaearth Onion Hair Mask conditioner
As much as I loved the results of this mask with curd, it was too much effort to apply it that way. I ended up using this as a normal conditioner, with a weekly intensive hair mask routine. It spread easily on wet hair and did not cause that much breakage. It washed off easily with water and after air-drying, my hair was smoother with lesser tangles.
Product Claims
Now coming to the claims, this mask claims to detangle hair, control hair fall and strengthen root. I did not observe any such difference to my hair. When air-dried, my hair was only slightly better than when only conditioner was used.
Tangles were lesser than compared with only shampoo. It did not increase or decrease my hair fall.
All in all, for me, this hair mask did not meet its claims. It is a decent conditioner that reduces frizz, and tangles, but then I had expected more conditioning effect for this price range. I had a better experience with the conditioner from the same range.
Pros
- Silicone and paraben-free hair mask
- Nice ingredient list
- smoother hair
- Subtle smell, nothing overbearing. Fades off during the day.
- Does not cause build-up on hair
Cons
- Did not meet its claims of stronger roots and reducing hair fall
- Caused breakage while applying it as a hair mask
- Expensive
- Tub packaging is not hygienic.
Recommendation
Give this hair mask a try only if you are looking for a silicone-free hair mask.
Repurchase
Even though I love shampoo and conditioner of this range, I will give this hair mask a miss. It didn’t suit my hair or make any difference to invest in the future.
Rating
3/5 spoons of happiness

So that was my review of Mamaearth Onion Hair Mask. This hair mask has an impressive ingredient list to combat hair fall and make hair stronger. Unfortunately, it didn’t work for me. Have you tried Mamaearth Onion Hair Mask? How was your experience, with it? Share in comments.
