The new year is just around the corner and is the perfect time to decide the new goals for the upcoming year. And your goals shouldn’t be limited to professional or personal life only. This new year, transform your skin by taking these simple, actionable, and effective beauty resolutions.
The shelf life of most of the resolutions is around 2 weeks (I think!) And the main reason for that is we tend to over complicate things.
Let’s take bite-sized resolutions and stick to them throughout the year. These can give you healthy hair, glowing skin, and a happier you!
New Year beauty resolutions
#1. Hydration – Water is your best friend
When it comes to hydration, water is the ultimate source as well as the goal. Since more than half of our body is made up of water, it makes sense to drink enough amount of water to stay hydrated.
It is recommended to drink at least 2 liters of water in a day for an adult. Even though this is just a recommendation and not a hard and fast rule, it is better to drink at least this much amount of water to stay hydrated.
Apart from numerous health benefits, drinking enough water also hydrates the skin and adds a glow to it.
I have observed, my skin in general, behaves better when I drink around 5 liters of water. I need more than a normal dose, but you don’t have to start with this much water.
Start with the minimum recommended amount, based on your weight, and then drink your way up to find your optimal amount.
#2. Rest – Sleep comes in a close second
You may have had a whirlwind holiday season. And sleep is often the last thing on mind amid all the festives. But..
Getting enough sleep is very important for your health and beauty. In the absence of proper sleep, stress levels increase, fatigue sets, you become cranky, your daily functioning starts getting impacted, and your hormones go for a wild run. With all of this going around, your skin and hair become second priority.
It is much easier to control this earlier by properly unwinding and getting enough, sound sleep. When you sleep, your mind relaxes and rejuvenates. This helps you in focusing on important tasks and controlling fatigue and stress. Sleeping also gives your body time to recover from any injury or stress that you would be going through.
A relaxed, unstressed you will have natural beauty. And you will also have energy to focus on taking care of yourself by having some dedicated beauty time.
#3. Beauty products – Use clean beauty products
This year make a shift to organic and clean skincare products. Start paying attention to the ingredients in your skincare, and making informed decision while choosing a product. Switch to organic products to get the powerful benefits of plants while avoiding harsh chemicals.
I have created a list of organic skincare brands that are effective and affordable. So, you will get a big punch for your money without making a hole in your pocket.
#4. Clear skin – And remove it before bed
As important it is to use clean, gentle beauty products, it is still more important to remove them before going to bed.
During the course of the day, your face is exposed to dust, sun, pollution on top of makeup. By the end of the day, all this clogs the skin and blocks any other nutrients from reaching the skin.
When you wash the face at the end of the day, along with makeup, dust, pollution and grime is also removed, leaving clean skin behind.
It is recommended to apply heavy moisturizing cream at night which will aid in recovery and solving any skin problem. It is important to wash face before applying anything as this will ensure, nutrients from your night cream reach the skin and are not stuck on already applied makeup.
You can use either organic face wash or micellar water to remove makeup and get clean and clear skin. Micellar water is a boon as it removes entire makeup and grime in one shot without having to worry about specific area like eyes, lipsticks etc.
#5. Nutrient Supplements – Vitamins, iron,& etc.
This new year, remember to incorporate a healthy diet to get the balanced nutrients. For any deficiencies and gaps, take quality supplements and vitamins to make up for the remaining nutrients. It is difficult to get certain vitamins and essential amino acids from diet, in such cases, it is necessary to use quality supplements to make up for the missing nutrients.
Keep in mind that not all supplements are created equal. So analyze, and choose your supplements carefully. Some of the most common nutrients to supplement are, B6, B12, D, zinc.
#6. Moisturize – skin, hair and body
Moisturizer should be your new staple beauty item. If you could have only one skincare item, I would recommend to go for moisturizer. Moisturizer is essential as it ensures the skin is properly moisturized with neither being too dry nor oily. Moisturizing your skin also ensure to keep the skin soft and supple, thereby keeping flaky skin at bay.
This year it may not be enough to just moisturize your face. Remember to moisturize your hair as well as body at regular intervals. Combining all this will ensure, you have smooth and supple skin as well as hair to flaunt.
#7. Suncare – Wear your hat and SPF
The best strategy to take care of skin on a sunny day is to avoid direct sun exposure. Strong sun can cause burns, tan, and serious skin issues. When going out in the sun, remember to include full sleeves, hats and sunscreens in your kit.
No matter whether you are in sunny or cloudy place, it is imperative that you use proper SPF to protect from the sun. Decide the SPF factor based on the time and exposure to the sun. High SPF does not mean broader protection. Check for broad-spectrum sun protection which would provide protection from both UVA and UVB waves.
And also check out the reapplication requirements for your sunscreen and ensure to reapply it as recommended.
You can also use after sun packs to recover from sun exposure. You can either buy after-sun packs from the market or use aloevera to cool down your skin and recover from sun exposure.
#8. Be regular – Create and stick to a skin/hair care regime
Exploring is all fine, but ultimately you have to create and stick to a skincare routine. Instead of doing say 7 things in a while, it is better to do only 3 steps daily. Figure out the feasible routine which can be applied daily without becoming too overwhelming to you. And stick to that routine.
The simplest approach is CTM, clean->tone->and moisturize. Clean your skin with any organic face wash, use a toner to balance out kin tone and then moisturize. This routine can be applied in the morning as well as night.
#9 Clean your brushes
Are you still applying dirt, and bacteria on your washed face? By using unwashed brushes, you may be inadvertently applying dirt and bacteria right back on your face. The same goes for hairbrushes.
Regularly clean your brushes with either hot, soapy water or baby shampoo.
#10 Don’t be afraid
To try something new this year. Want to try that new hairstyle? Go for it! Want to change your skincare routine? Please try something new. Instead of getting stuck in the same old rut, try something new. Your new look will give you confidence to take on bigger risks in life.
Concluding thoughts!
Enjoy the new year and apply these simple beauty resolutions.Take these resolutions and no doubt you will be happier with your skin, hair and hopefully health this new year.
